The Inheritors
Journey To Vahana
After 120 years crossing the void, the last hope for humanity arrives at the planet Vahana, only to find out that we were never meant to arrive unchanged.
The generation ship Continuity takes a diverse group from Earth to a world with trees that touch the stars. Vahana isn’t empty, though. The Vahani are beings of light and pattern who live in the canopy. The Mor’kalen live in the deep places, where they are used to pressure and darkness. And deep down inside both species is an old secret that will change everything they think they know about their purpose.
Maya Chen-Rodriguez, the descendant of the woman who saved humanity’s biological heritage, discovers that their whole journey was planned. Genetic changes that have been kept secret have been preparing humans for something new: merging with alien consciousness. Maya has to choose between those who want to change and those who will kill to stay “purely” human as three species are faced with a choice: evolve or die.
When a mysterious being offers humans eternal life in exchange for their individuality, and Earth itself calls its children home with promises that sound like threats, Maya’s daughter Bridge—the first real hybrid of human and alien—may be the key to survival. But to stay alive, all three species may have to change into something they were never meant to be… or maybe what they were always meant to be.
The Inheritors: Journey to Vahana asks the important question: Are we defined by what we are or by what we choose to become? It takes us from the incredible alien forests of Vahana to an Earth that has changed so much that it is unrecognizable.
A beautiful look at consciousness, evolution, and what it really means to be human. This is an ambitious and personal science fiction story slowly germinating in the author’s mind for twenty plus years.
